Effects of nutrition, depression symptoms and demographic characteristics on dementia in the elderly population

Objective: Due to the increase in elderly population, there is an chronic diseases, infections, depression , and nutritional problems as well a decrease cognitive abilities. This study aimed investigate effects of status, symptoms demographic characteristics on dementia population. Materials Methods: cross-sectional analytic which took place between first day April June 2018 three family health centers selected by simple random sampling from numbers table Konya, Turkey. Mini Nutritional Assessment normal (MNA) short form (MNA-SF), Geriatric Depression Scale-30 (GDS-30) Standardized Mini-Mental Test (SMMT) was applied 298 people. Results: Mild found 11.4% (n=34) and, were detected 5.7% (n=17) total. MNA-SF showed that 15.8% under risk malnutrition while 2.3% had malnutrition. total score (p=0.004) significantly higher males than females showing more impairment women men. There significant relationship presence gender (p=0.048), age groups (p=0.006), education (p<0.001), (p=0.012) MNA (p=0.002). Conclusion: The frequency women, low educated, depressive aged ones those with Regarding dementia, primary care; it important use designed specific scales these conditions for early diagnosis.
